The weather has been teasing us; giving us glimpses of cotton candy clouds nestled against a blue sky and then back to rain-soaked gloomy days that try your patience in the worst possible way. Its a losing battle for the weather and soon it will have to give in to the impending summer that is fast approaching – or so I fervently hope!
On the few sunny days we have had so far, I am finding myself increasingly drawn to relax fit cotton dresses, my stash of ethnic Indian silver jewellery and my collection of converse trainers. Relaxed fit clothing is not everybody’s cup of tea; I, however, am a sucker for a relaxed outfit that’s easy to wear all day long.
I normally refrain from commenting on movie stars in my blog but I am going to make an exception today. Let’s talk Sonam Kapoor; I know many consider Sonam Kapoor a bona fide fashionista and others vehemently disagree. Overall, I am a fan of her personal fashion statement and styling choices. Sure she gets it wrong sometimes, but honestly who doesn’t! One of the reasons I am a fan is because way back in the day, I found her to be one of the few mainstream actresses who was happy to step out and make a statement in fashionable relaxed clothing (and champion other styles I love like brogues) and didn’t always feel the need to be seen in figure-hugging clothes at all times like many others. I appreciated her diverse approach to clothing (it was a breath of fresh air) and how she was able to oscillate between a variety of styles and have some fun with fashion. For this versatility alone – I am in the fan club camp and always look forward to seeing her fashion choices.
I have already seen quite a few relaxed summer dresses that I have my eye on and I think the battle this summer may be to refrain from buying any more. Ironically, perhaps, some more shapely dresses need to make it into my wardrobe this summer. Below I am wearing two relaxed fit dresses that I have purchased recently. The first dress is a relaxed Midi dress from Zara with a linen scarf and silver converse sneakers. The second dress is a striped cotton dress from Uniqlo – they always do great fuss-free summer cotton dresses and I buy one at least one every year. I have paired it with my beloved yellow converse sneakers for a pop of colour.
These relaxed fit dresses will be a summer staple as soon as summer actually arrives! How do you feel about relaxed fit wear – do you loathe it, like it or love it like me? Have a great weekend and hopefully the sun will be out soon. Thank you so much for reading Isha’s Verdict.
Happy start of the week everyone. The sales have been on since last year, but I believe now is when the seasonal sales get really interesting. The stores have now further discounted sale items and this is the right time to strike! In my opinion, this week is a great time to get some genuine bargains, especially if you are looking for a relatively expensive item such as a new leather jacket or a fancy new coat. The downside is that your size may have sold out, however, it is worth checking other stores that may carry the brand or even the original brand website several times as sizes do come back on.
Substantial buys such as leather jackets are staples and less susceptible to change in the swift winds of fashion. A leather jacket you may buy in the sale today is likely to be severely discounted but will still be bang on trend for the rest of the year and beyond. The store may release it again with silver buttons instead of gold in the new year, but when you see it next month for full price you are going to mighty pleased with your gold-buttoned jacket!
In this lookbook, I have showcased two of my recent favourite sale purchases from COS. My love for sweater dresses is eternal and I am happy to add this pale grey A-lined number to my collection. The band across the back is my favourite part of the dress and its neutral front makes it perfect for accessorizing with a variety of pieces. I have teamed it with a pretty scarf my mother got me from India (bless our lovely mothers who always come back with presents), my high heel navy boots and my favourite tan coat. This dress can literally be worn with anything and its generous shape is a Godsend in terms of comfort and wearability.
The second sale purchase is a cream longline sweater vest that I have been looking at for a long time in the store. I don’t know if you do this as well, but I often find myself eying something up in a shop – knowing I love it and will wear it often – but then not buying it – but still looking at it every time I go into that shop or look online. It’s like a buyers paralysis in terms of executing the purchase but a stalkers determination in viewing it regardless! Back to my vest; I have teamed it with jeans, brown boots and my teddy coat for a cosy and warm outfit I have already worn a couple of times over.
Of course, I have been checking out my favourite websites for sale items (my friend calls me the ‘What’s on sale Guru’) but unfortunately, as the saying goes, ‘Even a bargain costs money’ and I can’t have it all. I can, however, point you in the direction of some of my top items on sale in case you in the market for something similar. Below are five of my high street favourites on sale:

Dress – COS (this colour is sold out online but you may find in the store)
We have all been there. You wake up on a freezing winter morning and you need to need to go somewhere; an important meeting at work or an equally important personal meeting and you have no idea what to wear. You don’t want to go with the tried (tired) and tested ‘black trousers look’ and jeans are out of the question. To add to your woes, you are not sure how you are feeling about your current body shape (for the record, I am convinced that we all look better than we give our selves credit for) and a form-fitting dress is definitely not up for consideration. Furthermore, it is imperative that you be warm in what you wear as you will be out all day and finally, it needs to work with the coats/bags/accessories/shoes you already have in your closet.
For the record, if it’s going to be public transportation, then it’s a no for me on the heels – the cold makes my feet ache in heels and the thought of tumbling down the escalator on the Victoria Line, at peak time, petrifies me. You can’t even blame it on a drink at that time in the morning!
The question then is as follows: What do I wear that satisfies all these criteria and still makes me look well turned out for the occasion in question?
The answer: A gently A-lined black merino wool dress that is long sleeved and a midi-length allowing for thick tights and black boots to accompany it. Other advantages include; a thin wool so that it doesn’t cause to itch all over, a price tag that won’t leave you without food for the next week and it comes in four basic colours.
I have recently purchased this black sweater dress from Uniqlo for all the reasons above. It’s structure gently glides over my curves without sticking to me and the length is perfect for heels and flats alike. In this week’s lookbook, I have paired it with accessories from my closet to illustrate my point. in the first look, I have accessorized it with a bold yellow silk scarf, a faux fur-lined sleeveless gilet and a plum coloured handbag. In the second look, I have paired it with a checked trench and a red handbag. I am guessing that I will be pairing this dress with something different each time I wear it. That is what I love about these kinds of ‘go anywhere blank canvas’ dresses. They really do allow for experimentation without the risk of going overboard.
I hope you enjoy these looks and have a great weekend ahead. If you get a chance, please do follow me on Instagram @ishasverdict. I am going to be working extra hard on my account in the next few months (‘Isha conquers Insta’ is my new personal goals motto) so your support would be much appreciated.
What makes a fabulous present? With age, one quickly learns that cost, size and name brands do not automatically a great present make. A great present is one that delights the recipient and brings an instant smile to the face and a warm glow to the heart. In my opinion, a heartfelt present demonstrates the givers understanding of my likes and dislikes and their intuitive ability to transform that knowledge into a present that will knock my socks off!
This stunning saree was the perfect present from a perfect lady who came to visit this summer. G, maybe my husband’s cousin but our mutual love of fashion makes us soul sisters. The saree in this lookbook is a linen Jamdani saree hand-woven in a village called Phulia in Bengal. The talented weavers of Phulia are applying the Jamdani technique on linen fabric to stunning results. Dola Mukherjee is the force behind these sarees – she is passionate about the weaving crafts of India and works directly with many clusters in India to preserve and promote their crafts.
My reaction to this present – I almost keeled over in delight when I saw this saree. The colours are exactly up my alley and I had no such saree in my wardrobe previously. Furthermore, the saree was a delight to wear, the fabric moved with graceful ease and felt fabulous against the skin. Here, I have paired it with my trusty Indian pink blouse to make the outfit pop (also because I love to mix and match from my wardobe) and these gorgeous gold and pearl earrings from Torran.
Thank you G for this thoughtful present – it has taken place of pride in my saree cupboard and I look forward to wearing it for years to come!
I hope you have a great weekend, perhaps receive a present or two and as always, thank you for reading my blog.
Happy Saturday everyone! Yesterday I went to my hairdresser and paid for a wash and blow-dry. It was money well spent as my hair looked great and I did not have to spend the time and effort doing it myself. As I was sitting in the chair, I started thinking about how much I enjoy getting my hair done by someone else. A question popped up in my mind – if a beauty genie suddenly appeared and said that I could choose to have one beauty treatment whenever I wanted, what would I choose? I went through the list of treatments women often indulge in such as blow-drys, facials, massages, manicures, pedicures, waxing (ok that is not a treat) and many more and decided that I would definitely choose a blow-dry. If a beauty genie granted you a free wish for one treatment any time any place – what would you choose?
Weekends are a great time for casual meet ups with friends where I want to look nice but not make the effort to get ‘dressed up’. I find a classic white shirt with coloured jeans works a treat for me – I can add wedges and a nice clutch to add some oomph to the outfit without going overboard. I love this linen and cloth shirt with pretty bows at the wrist and it works perfectly with jeans of any colour. I have added a lovely ‘insect’ necklace and a striped clutch to add an element of interest and neutral wedges to bring the outfit together. It’s a comfortable and fun outfit – my favourite kind of clothes for the weekend.
I hope you like this look and thank you for reading my blog. Have a great weekend!
